Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.5 update arrived with plenty of fanfare around its headline additions, but it turns out CD Projekt Red slipped something extra into the patch without saying a word about it. Players digging through the game have found a batch of cosmetics tied to The Witcher 3, including a sword that looks like it belongs on Geralt’s back rather than in Night City’s neon alleys.
The studio never mentioned any of it in the patch notes. The items simply showed up in the files and, in some cases, in the game itself, waiting for someone to notice.
What the patch actually promised
On paper, version 2.5 was already a substantial drop. It introduced a new dual-wielding combat style, which lets V fight with a weapon in each hand instead of cycling between them. That alone changes the rhythm of gunfights and melee brawls considerably.
Beyond combat, the update expanded the character creator with additional ways to tweak V’s appearance, giving players more control over how their protagonist looks from the opening minutes onward. A handful of extra quests rounded out the package, adding more reasons to return to a game that has already been rebuilt several times since its rocky launch. CDPR framed the whole thing as a quality-of-life and content refresh, and by most accounts it delivers on that promise.
What the patch notes left out, however, was the quiet crossover sitting inside the download.
A very Geralt-shaped surprise
The most talked-about discovery is a sword modeled after the kind of blade the White Wolf would carry. It is not a subtle reference either — the design leans hard into the medieval, monster-hunting aesthetic that defines The Witcher series, which makes its presence in a cyberpunk setting all the more noticeable. Alongside it, players have reported a set of clothing and cosmetic pieces pulled from the same universe, allowing V to walk around Night City looking like they just stepped out of Velen.
For now, the community is still piecing together exactly how these items are obtained. Some appear to be tied to specific in-game conditions, while others may simply be sitting in the game’s files awaiting a future unlock. CDPR has stayed silent on the matter, which is very much in character for a studio that enjoys letting players find things on their own.
Not the first time the two worlds have crossed
This is hardly new territory for CD Projekt Red. The studio has a long history of hiding nods to its own catalogue inside its games, and the Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises have been winking at each other for years. The Witcher 3 famously contained references to Cyberpunk long before that game launched, and Cyberpunk 2077 has returned the favour more than once.
What makes this instance different is the scale. A single easter egg is one thing; a genuine set of wearable cosmetics plus a signature weapon suggests something closer to a deliberate tribute than a passing joke. Given that CDPR is currently developing the next Witcher saga while continuing to support Cyberpunk 2077, a little cross-pollination between the two properties feels almost inevitable.
What players are saying
Reception among the community has been warm, if a bit puzzled. Some are thrilled at the chance to dress V in Witcher gear, treating it as a fun bit of fan service. Others are wondering why the studio chose to keep quiet about content that would have generated easy goodwill in the patch notes.
There is also the practical question of longevity. Cyberpunk 2077 has been through a remarkable turnaround, and each update since the 2.0 overhaul has been scrutinised closely for signs of how much support the game will keep receiving. Hidden content like this suggests the developers are still having fun with the project, even if the official messaging suggests the focus is shifting elsewhere.
Whether these items become a permanent, fully supported part of the game or remain a semi-secret curiosity is unclear. What is certain is that the search for them has given players a fresh reason to boot up Night City again — and that, for a five-year-old game, is no small thing.
