Unlike previous Assassin's Creed games, Shadows won't be getting a second major expansion after Claws of Awaji. Instead, Ubisoft is planning to release "chunkier updates," kind of like that Attack on Titan crossover we saw recently.

Since Assassin's Creed Origins in 2017, we've gotten used to at least two expansions per game. There was even a time when Assassin's Creed Mirage was supposed to be an expansion for Valhalla, before it became its own thing.

However, Shadows is doing things differently. Claws of Awaji was released some time ago, and it'll be the only big expansion for this title, which can be surprising for some fans.

Simon Lemay-Comtois, the associate game director, said that right now, they aren't planning any expansions as big as Claws of Awaji for Year Two. They're still working on post-launch content, but it won't be a full-blown DLC like we've seen in the past.

I think this could be a good thing, though. If they focus on smaller, more frequent updates, they can react to what the community wants and needs more quickly.

What to Expect in Year Two

Lemay-Comtois mentioned that they might change their plans, but for now, Ubisoft wants to keep updates "small and reactive" to see how players feel about them.

It's all about learning from Year One and applying it to Year Two. Any new content will probably be more spread out, with "chunkier updates" that shake things up. Instead of constant small drops, they want to release bigger pieces of content that bring players back.

Since it came out, Shadows has already gotten updates with features that fans wanted, which addressed some initial issues. Now, the team can focus on bigger updates, just not as big as a full expansion.

For example, those updates will be at least the size of the Attack on Titan crossover, but that's only available for a limited time. Speaking of which, the reaction to the Attack on Titan crossover hasn't been great, with some people criticizing the quest design and animations. It seems like you can't please everyone.

While all of this is happening, Shadows is also coming to Switch 2.

On a side note, Assassin's Creed Mirage recently got a surprise free story DLC, which was reportedly supported by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. It's interesting to see where the money is coming from in the gaming world.
