Back to the Dawn: Prison Thriller RPG Escapes to Switch & Switch 2 in 2026
Hey everyone! I've got some awesome news for those of you who love a good prison escape story. Back to the Dawn, that thrilling RPG where you play as an animal inmate trying to break free, is officially hitting the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 on March 5, 2026! I know, it's a bit of a wait, but trust me, it sounds like it'll be worth it.
Now, if you're a PlayStation 5 gamer, don't worry, you're not being left out. The PS5 version is also slated for 2026, but we'll have to sit tight for the specific release date. The developers promise to share that info soon. For those who haven't heard of it, Back to the Dawn initially launched on PC via Steam Early Access and then fully on Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. So, it's been around the block and is now ready for the Nintendo consoles.
What's New?
So, what can we expect from this new release? Well, it's not just a simple port. The Switch and Switch 2 versions are getting some love with enhanced localization across all subtitle languages. That means a smoother, more immersive experience, no matter where you're from. But wait, there's more! They're also adding brand-new Japanese and Chinese voice acting. For example, Thomas the Fox will be voiced by Shugo Nakamura in Japanese, while Bob the Panther gets his voice from Yasuhiro Mamiya. Pretty cool, right?
For those of you in Japan and Asia, there's even more to get excited about. Clouded Leopard Entertainment will be distributing physical editions of Back to the Dawn. We're talking about a standard edition with the game itself, and a limited edition packed with goodies! The limited edition includes things like an exclusive acrylic diorama stand, original pins, a digital art book, a digital soundtrack, and even some downloadable content. If you grab either edition early, you'll also snag a first-print bonus microfiber cloth.
If you're wondering what the game is all about, imagine this: You're an animal in a city riddled with corruption. You've been framed and thrown into a brutal prison. Your mission? To survive, uncover the truth, and escape. You'll be making alliances, exploring the prison, and figuring out who you can trust. With multiple escape routes and a huge script, there's a lot to discover. If you're into games where your choices matter and you can shape your character, this might be right up your alley.
It sounds like Metal Head Games are putting a lot of effort into making this the definitive version of Back to the Dawn. I'm personally excited to see how the game plays on the Switch and Switch 2, and I'll be keeping an eye out for that PS5 release date.
