Battlefield 6: Console Crossplay Lets You Block PC Players!
It looks like Battlefield 6 is giving console players a neat way to avoid potential cheaters! Basically, if you're on PlayStation or Xbox, you'll have the option to keep your matches console-only, meaning no PC players in your lobbies. Matthew Nickerson, a senior combat designer, explained that this crossplay feature has a simple on/off switch.
When crossplay is on, the game will prioritize filling lobbies with console players first. If it's off, you'll only be playing with other console gamers. From what I've heard, the default setting is crossplay enabled, but you can change it if you want.
I think this is a smart move, especially since, let's be honest, PC games tend to have more cheating issues than consoles. However, the developers at Battlefield are serious about fighting cheaters. They've implemented things like secure boot and a new anti-cheat system called Javelin to try and keep the game fair for everyone.
Aim Assist and Console Optimization
They've also worked on aim assist for console players to level the playing field against PC gamers who have the advantage of using a mouse and keyboard. Nickerson mentioned that the aim assist system has been completely redone. So I expect good news for players who are veterans on controller - it should feel much better than it did in Battlefield 2042.
On top of that, the team has been focusing on optimizing the game for consoles. Apparently, they had some trouble getting it to run smoothly on the Xbox Series S due to memory limitations. However, that pushed them to optimize the game's memory usage, which has made the whole experience better and more stable across all platforms.
Battlefield 6 is slated to launch on October 10th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. So, if you're a console player who's been wary of crossplay in the past, you can breathe a sigh of relief. You've got options!
