Black Ops 7 Multiplayer: Details Emerge Ahead of Call of Duty: Next
So, Black Ops 7 is still on the horizon, but it looks like Treyarch and Raven decided to drop a massive info dump about the multiplayer mode. Honestly, they've pretty much laid it all out there – the maps, the hardware, even diving deep into how movement and map design will work. If you thought Call of Duty: Next was going to be the big reveal, you'd be mistaken, as they've shared a wealth of details beforehand.
This blog post is seriously huge, probably one of the biggest I've ever seen for a Call of Duty game. It’s broken down into sections that cover just about every aspect of multiplayer, leaving very little to the imagination. They've revealed all 18 maps that will be available when Black Ops 7 launches: 16 core multiplayer maps (6v6), and two Skirmish maps. What's cool is that three of those 16 are remakes from Black Ops 2 – Express, Hijacked, and Raid.
Skirmish is the new mode that supports a large number of players. It's 20v20 matches on big maps with team objectives, vehicles, and all that good stuff. It's not anything groundbreaking, but it seems solid. Overload, which is a new take on Capture the Flag, is also being introduced. While these modes add some variety, the core experience still lies in those classic 6v6 battles.
Overclock: The Key to Customization
When it comes to building your loadout, the big addition this year is Overclock. This feature allows you to tweak tacticals, lethals, Field Upgrades, and even Scorestreaks. You can equip up to two Overclock abilities, which offer upgrades that can boost equipment damage, change how it interacts with the world, adjust its cost, or speed up its charge. It’s going to be interesting to see what kinds of crazy combinations players come up with using Overclock.
There’s also a section on progression, explaining how the camo grind will work this time around. Plus, Weapon Prestige is making a comeback, and they're tweaking progression across the board. So, it sounds like there will be plenty to keep players engaged for the long haul. While I appreciate all the new features and changes, I'm also a bit wary of over-complicating things. Sometimes, simplicity is key, and I hope Black Ops 7 strikes the right balance between innovation and accessibility.
Black Ops 7 is coming on November 14 to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. So, mark your calendars and get ready to dive in!
