Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Will Require Secure Boot on PC Like Battlefield 6

Action

Okay, so it looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 are taking a similar path, even though they're obviously different games. What's the deal? Well, both are going to require you to enable secure boot on your PC.

Just after EA announced that the Battlefield 6 open beta would need a trip to your BIOS to enable secure boot (all to fight cheating), Activision has revealed that Black Ops 7 will follow.

With the arrival of Black Ops 6's season five today, August 7, EA are initiating a "phased rollout" of secure booting and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 as mandatory requirements when hopping into an entry of the series. Basically, they want to stop people from loading unauthorized files that could be used for cheating. We're talking aimbots and wallhacks, the kind of stuff that ruins the game for everyone.

This isn't an instant switch. You can still play Black Ops 6's current season without secure boot or TPM 2.0 enabled, but you'll get notifications reminding you to get it sorted. When Black Ops 7 arrives, however, both will be mandatory.

Activision says these hardware-level protections are a key part of their anti-cheat efforts. They're asking everyone to get compliant now, and they've even provided instructions on how to check and enable these features in your BIOS settings.

If you have a fairly recent PC, especially one running Windows 10 or 11, it shouldn't be too difficult. Of course, this assumes you're okay with taking these extra steps to help combat cheating. Activision believes these measures will "strengthen security and protect the experience, without impacting performance." Let's hope they're right!

As for Warzone, there are no immediate plans to make secure boot and TPM 2.0 mandatory, but that could change. Activision also mentioned that they'll share more details on additional protection measures as we get closer to the Black Ops 7 launch. They also suggested that two-factor authentication on your Activision account might become mandatory too.

Just think of Captain Price ordering you to do all this setup so you can shoot some virtual bad guys.
