Chrono Trigger: Yuji Horii's Cryptic Comments Spark Remake Buzz
Okay, so, Yuji Horii, the main brain behind Dragon Quest, has everyone buzzing about Chrono Trigger. While he wasn't the only person involved, he was a supervisor for the game, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Now, during a recent livestream, the topic of Chrono Trigger came up, and things got interesting.
Basically, Horii was asked about all the chatter surrounding Chrono Trigger and whether it meant something bigger was coming. Horii got all flustered and said he "can't talk about that". Come on, we all know what that usually means, right?
Adding fuel to the fire, Kazuhiko Torishima, a former editor of Shonen Jump, was also there. He mentioned already announced Chrono Trigger projects, like a concert series planned for next year. So, naturally, he asked Horii if there would be any further developments for the franchise. That’s when Horii got super evasive, saying things like "Don't ask!" and "I'll get in trouble!". The whole panel had a good laugh about it, and Torishima even cheekily replied, "There's something".
Let's be real, when someone famous in the gaming world gets that cagey, it usually means something is up. I think there is definitely something happening behind the scenes.
For example, Square Enix themselves mentioned the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger earlier this year. They stated they'd be launching "various projects" to thank fans. This made everyone think about a possible remake or re-release. While there's been no official word, Horii's recent reactions definitely add to the speculation.
Even if we don't get a remake right away, there are tons of games out there that take inspiration from Chrono Trigger. I believe that Sea of Stars even got DLC recently, and there are upcoming games like Edge of Memories and Threads of Time that are heavily inspired by the Square Enix classic.
