Dragon Age Trilogy Remaster Rejected? EA Prefers to Pass on Easy Money
So, I heard some interesting news about a potential Dragon Age trilogy remaster. Apparently, BioWare pitched the idea to EA, but it seems like they weren't too keen on it. Mark Darrah, a Dragon Age series veteran, spilled the beans in an interview, and it's quite the story!
According to Darrah, EA seems to prefer focusing on games that they see as having more "mainstream success." He mentioned that it's been historically difficult for them to look at a game like Dragon Age: Origins, which he describes as "super nerdy" and "not very attractive looking," and see its potential for broader appeal. I kind of get what he means. Origins was amazing, but it definitely had a specific vibe.
He contrasts this with Mass Effect, which EA apparently viewed as having more mainstream appeal. That's why we got the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which was awesome! But, what about us Dragon Age fans?
The idea for the Dragon Age remaster was apparently called "The Champions Trilogy." Sounds pretty epic, right? But EA, for some reason, is apparently "against remasters." Darrah even said it's strange for a publicly traded company to turn down what he calls "free money." I have to admit, it does sound a bit odd.
Why is it so hard?
There's also the technical side of things. Apparently, the Dragon Age games were made in different engines, which would make a remaster more complicated than Mass Effect. They would either need to hire a different team or do it in-house, which would create resource issues, since BioWare is already working on Veilguard. It sounds like a logistical nightmare!
Darrah also mentioned that BioWare might work better focusing on one project at a time. It seems like things can get a little chaotic when they're juggling multiple big titles. It makes sense, I guess. Focus can be a good thing!
While the future of Dragon Age after Veilguard is uncertain, Darrah thinks there are more games to be made. I really hope he's right! I'm not sure how they'll get started, but I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed.
