So, I stumbled upon something pretty cool today. Yuji Horii, the main mind behind the Dragon Quest series, apparently thinks Final Fantasy X is the bee's knees. He went as far as calling it "ultimate perfection" when it launched back in 2001. That's some high praise, especially coming from someone who's a legend in the RPG world himself.

It's interesting because, while both series are JRPG giants, they have their own distinct flavors. Dragon Quest always felt a bit more classic, with its turn-based combat and fairytale vibe. Final Fantasy, on the other hand, consistently pushes boundaries with its stories, characters, and gameplay systems. For Horii to single out Final Fantasy X, it makes you wonder what exactly resonated with him so deeply.

I remember playing Final Fantasy X when it first came out. Tidus' story, Yuna's pilgrimage, the whole Spira setting... it was just so immersive. The sphere grid system was a really cool way to develop your characters, and the soundtrack is still stuck in my head after all these years. Maybe that's what Horii appreciated too.

Ultimately, it just goes to show how much respect there is within the gaming industry. It's awesome when creators acknowledge and appreciate each other's work, even when they're technically "competitors". Maybe it gives some insight into what elements he wants to include in the future Dragon Quest entries.
