Okay, horror junkies, listen up! Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, that spooky PS2 game, is getting a remake for PC! Tecmo and Team Ninja are teaming up to bring this classic to Steam, and it's slated to drop in early 2026. If you're not familiar, Fatal Frame's whole deal is that you fight ghosts using a magical camera. So, basically, you gotta stare down these creepy spirits while snapping pics. Sounds fun, right?

I've only dabbled in the Fatal Frame world with Fatal Frame III: The Tormented. The cool thing about that one was switching between a safe apartment during the day and a haunted manor at night. But I've heard Crimson Butterfly is where it's at. It's about twin sisters, Mio and Mayu, who stumble into a creepy village after following a red butterfly. Sounds like a messed-up vacation, right?

Apparently, this remake is a "complete overhaul," which sounds promising. The Steam page mentions "richer and more engaging gameplay in both exploration and combat." There's even a "Holding Hands with Mayu" mechanic. I'm hoping there's more to it than just hand-holding, but we'll see. Maybe we will be able to feel the true bond of sisterhood, who knows!

I dig the photography aspect of Fatal Frame. You can upgrade your camera with different lenses and film. Plus, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about taking a good shot while you're blasting ghosts with your flash. If you've got nerves of steel, you might even start critiquing the ghosts' poses. "Come on, dude, give me some emotion! This could be a cover shot!"

Two other Fatal Frame games have already made their way to PC. But one of those releases didn't exactly impress everyone, with one reviewer calling it an "expensive reskin of a relic." Ouch. Hopefully, Crimson Butterfly will fare better.
