Legendary strategy boardgame Twilight Imperium is getting a proper PC adaptation with singleplayer support
A while ago, I almost joined a weekly Twilight Imperium session. Maybe I dodged a bullet? Twilight Imperium is known for being complex and full of backstabbing. It's the kind of strategy game that can take up your whole day and show you some ugly sides of people.
Thankfully, there's a PC version in development for Steam! At least you won't have to set up all those pieces and remember what they do.
Red Square Games, who made SlavicPunk: Oldtimer, is working on the adaptation. The basic idea of Twilight Imperium is that the galactic emperor has died, and 17 factions are fighting for the throne.
The Steam page asks, "Will you dominate through raw military might, control the Galactic Council with persuasive politics, or outmaneuver rivals with secret objectives and clever deals?" Personally, I'll support whoever controls planet Crisp Bowl ASAP.
Single Player and Tutorials!
The Steam version uses the board game's fourth edition and has animated 3D space battles. But what's even better is that it includes interactive tutorials and tooltips. The game will have singleplayer support. I don't envy the developers who have to create AI for a game this complex. Multiplayer features include online matchmaking and asynchronous play.
There's no release date yet, and I'm really curious to see how they implement the AI. If you're into strategy games and don't mind a steep learning curve, this might be one to watch.
