Lies of P gets a co-op mod in alpha, bringing boss battles with friends
Guess what? A co-op mod for Lies of P, that very French and very puppety soulslike game, just dropped in alpha! Right now, you and a buddy can team up to tackle those tough boss battles. The creators? They're dreaming big, aiming for full multiplayer playthroughs, just like that amazing seamless co-op mod for Elden Ring.
While we all know Yui as the mastermind behind most FromSoftware games' multiplayer mods, this Lies of P co-op is the work of Ember Wave, a team of three. They've put in over a year, reverse-engineering and developing systems. You can find their alpha release on Nexus Mods. They've even shared some of their progress on YouTube and Patreon along the way.
So, what can you do right now? Well, you can jump into boss fights across the main game and DLC with another player. Think Scrapped Watchman, Nameless Puppet, and even Arlecchino the Blood Artist. For now, it's duos only, but the modders are thinking about increasing that limit. That is, once they overcome some technical challenges.
You'll be able to see each other's health bars. If you fall, you can even spectate your partner via a special death cam. Plus, you can be revived if they activate a stargazer. According to the modders, you can even mess around after beating a boss, but they warn that crashes might happen.
What's next for them? They're working on syncing world events like doors, elevators, and quests. Also, they need to fix an issue related to entering the Hotel, which is causing some unexpected stuff to happen. So, that's what they're focusing on, along with squashing any major bugs in the alpha release.
If you're itching to try the alpha, you'll need Windows 10 or 11 and a Steam copy of Lies of P running September's version 1.12.0.0 update. You'll also need Radmin VPN to simulate a LAN connection for hosting co-op sessions. Oh, and if you want to fight DLC bosses, both of you need to own the DLC.
I'm really curious to see if this co-op mod can reach the heights of Yui's masterpieces when it's finished. In the meantime, these modders will keep working to see what they can pull off. I am excited to see the final product.
