Monster Hunter Wilds: Datamine Hints at Possible Switch 2 Release!
So, rumors are swirling about a possible Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds! A group of dataminers in China have been digging around in the game's files – specifically, Title Update 4 – and they think they've found some juicy evidence.
According to these digital sleuths, there are references to a Switch 2 port hidden within the game's code. This includes stuff like wireless multiplayer settings, graphical presets, and a bunch of other parameters tailored for different platforms like the PS5, PC, Xbox Series, and – you guessed it – the Switch 2. It seems promising, but remember, it's all speculation for now.
What We Might Expect
If these leaks are legit, it looks like Monster Hunter Wilds on the Switch 2 could run at 30 FPS using DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology. There's also a screenshot floating around that shows Switch 2 presets running on a PC, with details like "The shadow quality preset for the Switch 2's docked 'Graphics Mode' is higher than the PC's 'Very Low' preset". In docked mode, it seems like it might output at 1080p.
Of course, this isn't final, but it gives us a glimpse of what Capcom might be aiming for. This image shows a screenshot of the Switch 2 presets loaded on a PC and reportedly states: "The shadow quality preset for the Switch 2's docked 'Graphics Mode' is higher than the PC's 'Very Low' preset. In docked mode, 'Graphics Mode' outputs at 1080p".
There is even more, the information discovered includes a sentence in the source code: "Bring Nintendo Switch 2 consoles together to create or join a lobby using local wireless communication". So it seems they are really working on the port.
While Capcom hasn't officially announced anything, they've always been supportive of Nintendo's consoles. I mean, who doesn't love hunting monsters on the go? It's possible they were waiting for the PC version to get optimized before diving into another platform. The PC version had some rough patches at launch, with performance issues that led to some negative reviews and even affected Capcom's stock price. They wouldn't want a repeat of that on the Switch 2, right?
I'm personally hoping this is true. I can imagine myself curled up on the couch, hunting huge monsters on the Switch 2. Maybe we'll get an official announcement soon. Fingers crossed!
