New Wolfenstein Game? MachineGames Teases the Completion of B.J. Blazkowicz's Story

Action

So, for those of you who were bummed out about not being able to smash Nazi skulls in the latest Indiana Jones game, there's some potentially awesome news! MachineGames, the masterminds behind the recent Wolfenstein titles, are hinting at a new installment.

Apparently, they've had a plan in mind for a while now to wrap up B.J. Blazkowicz's saga. Studio head Jerk Gustafsson mentioned they even had the story mapped out way back during the development of The New Order. "We have a story to tell," he said. Which, honestly, sounds super promising!

Now, I find the idea of another Wolfenstein game from these guys seriously intriguing. Remember Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus? It was a pretty bold game, tackling some heavy themes with its alternate-history Nazi-occupied America setting. I recall back in 2017 thinking about how the game was making some pretty strong statements. But hey, a lot has changed since then!

Seriously, 2017 feels like a lifetime ago, right? The world's gotten even more complicated. Trying to make a mainstream shooter that touches on any of today's big issues seems like a crazy challenge. But then again, when has making games ever been simple?

The gaming landscape has totally transformed, too. MachineGames is now part of the Microsoft empire after the whole ZeniMax Media acquisition. And Microsoft? Well, they're tightening their belts, like many companies. MachineGames did turn a profit in 2024, but that doesn't guarantee anything. They even had to scrap at least one unannounced project between 2022 and 2024.
