Nintendo Wins Case Against Streamer Leaking Games Before Release!
Well, folks, it seems Nintendo is serious about cracking down on folks who leak their games! They just won a lawsuit against a streamer named Jesse Keighin, who apparently streamed some pirated games before they even hit the shelves. Can you imagine getting to play a game before everyone else, but at what cost?
Apparently, things got a little heated. Nintendo claimed Keighin even taunted them, bragging about having a ton of backup channels to stream from. It sounds like something straight out of a movie!
So, what's the damage? The courts have ordered Keighin to cough up $17,500 to Nintendo. That's a hefty price to pay for streaming games early. However, the judge didn't grant Nintendo everything they wanted. They asked for an order to destroy those devices used to bypass security, but the judge said no, likely because he emulated them online. Additionally, the request to target third parties involved with Keighin was also denied.
That $17,500 breaks down like this: $10,000 for streaming Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood early, and another $7,500 for fifteen past violations. It adds up fast!
This whole situation just shows that Nintendo isn't messing around when it comes to protecting their games. Remember that they're also going after a Reddit moderator for alleged piracy. It seems they have updated their account agreements so they can ban your console if you are caught pirating. Is it worth the risk to play a game early? Probably not.
