Nioh 3 Revealed: Open World Action RPG
Team Ninja surprised fans during a recent PlayStation showcase with the announcement of Nioh 3. This isn't just another entry; it marks a significant shift for the series. Set in Japan's Sengoku period, the game introduces a new protagonist, a young warrior destined to become Shogun.
A More Open World Experience
One of the most striking changes is the shift to an "open field" design. While not explicitly called open-world, gameplay areas appear significantly more expansive than previous iterations. This departure from the series' traditional structure is a bold move, potentially influenced by feedback on other similar titles. Yokai and human enemies will populate these open areas, promising diverse combat encounters.
Dual Combat Styles: Samurai and Ninja
Nioh 3 introduces a revolutionary dual combat system. Players can seamlessly switch between Samurai and Ninja fighting styles. Samurai combat feels familiar to veteran players, while Ninja style focuses on speed and aerial maneuvers, utilizing Ninjitsu techniques and abilities like creating combat clones.
The Samurai style includes enhancements like improved Arts Proficiency boosting martial arts capabilities and a new Deflect mechanic, offering advanced parry options. This flexibility in combat styles promises a more dynamic and engaging experience.
While a PlayStation 5 demo is currently available (for a limited time), the game itself will launch on both PC and PS5, marking the first time a Nioh title will be available on both platforms simultaneously.
Nioh 3 looks set to redefine the series. Whether Team Ninja's evolution of the formula will be a success remains to be seen, but the changes certainly point toward a fresh and exciting experience for fans.
