Post-apocalyptic South Korea survival horror Ground Zero announced
Get ready for a chilling adventure in Ground Zero, a retro-inspired survival horror game set in a post-apocalyptic South Korea. Developed by Malformation Games and published by Kwalee, this title promises a unique blend of classic horror gameplay and a compelling storyline.
The game's premise centers around a devastating meteor impact that has left South Korea in ruins. Two months later, an elite Korean operative and her Canadian partner are dispatched to investigate the catastrophe. What they discover amidst the fog and debris is far more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.
Exploring a Devastated Landscape
Players will explore a beautifully rendered, yet devastated, South Korea. From coastal towns and ancient temples to the ravaged urban center, the environments are rich with detail and atmosphere. The environments are not just eye candy; they're integral to the gameplay, hiding secrets, clues and terrifying monsters.
Combat and Upgrades
Ground Zero offers a blend of action and survival horror. Players will need to utilize a range of abilities – shooting, stabbing, kicking and expertly countering attacks – to survive encounters with mutated creatures. A rewarding combat system incentivizes skillful play; cleaner kills yield more Genome Points, which can then be used to upgrade weapons and equipment.
Classic Horror Meets Modern Thrills
The game embraces the spirit of classic survival horror games. Expect fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, challenging puzzles, and customizable difficulty settings. For those seeking an authentic retro experience, optional tank controls are also available. Beyond the core gameplay, players can also look forward to unlockable content, including alternate outfits, additional game modes, and hidden endings.
While a release date hasn't been revealed, Ground Zero is slated to arrive on Steam for PC. This is definitely one to keep on your radar for fans of retro survival horror and post-apocalyptic settings.
