Resident Evil: Requiem

Resident Evil: Requiem Almost Went Open-World and Online! What Could Have Been?

Survival Horror

Hey everyone! It sounds like Capcom almost took a WILDLY different path with a Resident Evil title that never saw the light of day: Resident Evil: Requiem. Can you imagine exploring Raccoon City (or a new location) in a completely open world? I know, right? My mind is racing with possibilities!

Apparently, Capcom tossed around the idea of making Requiem an open-world experience. Think about it: hordes of zombies roaming freely, resource scavenging across a massive map, and the constant tension of not knowing what lurks around the next corner. It sounds incredibly ambitious, if you ask me!

But wait, there's more! They also considered adding online elements. Imagine teaming up with friends to survive the zombie apocalypse, tackling challenging missions together, or even facing off against other players in a desperate fight for survival. Talk about a game-changer!

Ultimately, it seems Capcom decided to go in another direction (we don't know why exactly). Whatever their reasons were, they scrapped these ambitious ideas and, presumably, went back to the drawing board. It makes you wonder what could have been, doesn't it?

I am very curious about this! While an open-world Resident Evil might sound cool on paper, I can also see how it could potentially dilute the series' core strengths: tight level design, claustrophobic atmosphere, and carefully crafted scares. Maybe they made the right call... or maybe they missed out on something incredible.
