Shadowrun Devs' New Game Graft: Survival Body Horror with Twisted Delights
If I had to pick a favorite game genre, body horror would definitely be up there. I find the twisted imagery of altered bodies strangely fascinating, and sometimes even relatable. Graft, the upcoming game from the folks behind Battletech and Shadowrun, is diving headfirst into this unsettling territory, and its first gameplay trailer is seriously disturbing.
The trailer kicks off with a truly bizarre scene: a man seemingly fusing a woman's torso onto his own body. Bloody tendrils and beams of light are involved, making for a mesmerizing but deeply unsettling spectacle. It definitely made me question what the game's story is all about, especially considering the woman's seemingly willing embrace. I'm really curious to see how the narrative unfolds.
The gameplay itself looks like your typical survival horror fare, though Graft also has RPG elements. According to the Steam page, relationships and choices play a big role, shaping your journey and the fates of those you encounter. This sounds like it could be a really cool feature, adding some depth to the traditional survival formula.
The "grafting" mechanic is where things get really interesting. You can modify your body by scavenging parts from enemies or hidden locations. These modifications come with some strange side effects, like cravings and fragmented memories. The game hints at dark impulses and lost loves, drawing me into a world reminiscent of Blame!. I think that it's a unique way to make the player experiment some new feelings and emotions, making the gameplay very original.
While there's no release date yet, you can add Graft to your Steam wishlist. I know I will!
