Sony and Honda's Afeela Car: Play PS5 Games on the Go with Remote Play
Imagine kicking back in your car, not driving, of course, and diving into your favorite PS5 game. Well, Sony and Honda are making that a reality! Their new electric vehicle, the Afeela 1, will let passengers stream PS4 and PS5 games using PlayStation Remote Play.
The Afeela 1 is the first car coming from Sony Honda Mobility, which was formed in 2022. The car is slated to hit California roads in 2026. It's pretty wild to think that your car could become a mobile gaming hub!
To get this working, you'll need a PS4 or PS5 at home since the Afeela uses Remote Play. This isn't about streaming games directly from the cloud like PS Plus Premium offers; instead, it's mirroring your console experience onto the car's built-in display and sound system. You'll probably need to bring your Dualsense controller to actually play.
It seems like Sony and Honda are really trying to make travel time more entertaining. Izumi Kawanishi from Sony Honda Mobility mentioned that they're aiming to turn the car into a space that's both engaging and exciting. I must say, they are trying to achieve a completely new level of entertainment.
While this isn't the first attempt at in-car gaming, as BMW tried casual games via smartphones and Tesla even toyed with Steam integration before dropping it, this feels different. It is all about bringing the full PlayStation experience on the road. It remains to be seen if it will be a success, but it definitely sounds like a fun idea!
