Okay, so I checked out the trailer for Space Scum, a new strategy RPG. I gotta admit, my first thought was, "Hey, this reminds me of Battle Brothers!". I know, that's not entirely fair, but the similarities are definitely there. However, it's got its own vibe going on, especially with those cool chess-piece-like stands for your characters. That's gotta count for something, right?

The art style is really appealing, and honestly, the main dude in the trailer looks like he could get pretty intense if I kept dwelling on the comparison. So, let's just move on, shall we?

Good news, everyone! There's a Steam demo dropping next month, August 2025. If you're feeling impatient, you can sign up for a playtest right now! I, for one, am excited!

So, what's the game all about? Well, you've got your turn-based battles, procedurally generated planets (which I always love!), character origins and traits, permadeath for your mercenaries (ouch!), gear looting, and, of course, skill trees. All the good stuff!

But the sci-fi setting is where Space Scum really shines. I'm digging the enemy variety, for example. Space rats, space lizards, space bugs... basically, all the creepy crawlies you wouldn't want infesting your space cargo. Range combat seems to play a big role, too, and you can specialize your mercs in hacking and turret shenanigans. Nice!

Seriously, those space rats look absolutely furious! They're like, "Where's the space cheese?!" It's pretty expressive.

The developers describe Space Scum as a tactical, turn-based RPG set across procedurally generated planets, which means every playthrough should be unique. They also call it "gritty," but honestly, I think we could've figured that out from the trailer. I probably would have picked another word but hey, that's just me.

I'm definitely gonna give the demo a shot. It looks like a blast! As for the full release, it's still TBC.
