Square Enix announces Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse, a new horror mystery game!

Square Enix just dropped a surprise: Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, a follow-up to the chilling mystery visual novel, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. I remember when that first game came out; it was a real sleeper hit with it's innovative setting. This time, we're ditching the gloomy city streets for the sunny Japanese coast. Think less Silent Hill, more Deadly Premonition with swimsuits. You play as Yuza Minakuchi, a pearl diver who makes a startling discovery: another version of himself lurking in the depths. That's way more exciting than anything I've found at the bottom of the ocean. It sounds like we're getting another intricate, multi-character story. The Steam page mentions a girl with a mysterious past, a foreign treasure hunter, and a housewife investigating a drowning. So, plenty of different viewpoints to keep things interesting. Gameplay-wise, it seems like we'll be doing more of what made the first game great. You'll be scouring detailed 360-degree backgrounds for clues. But there are some new tricks too, including a diving minigame! It sounds like it could be a lot of fun, and that there will be some differences between the two games, story-wise. It's cool that Square Enix worked with Mie prefecture to create those backgrounds. Imagine using horror stories to attract tourists! It's a bold strategy, but it could pay off. Here's the best part: we don't have to wait long. The Mermaid’s Curse launches on February 19th! If you missed out on the original Paranormasight, it's on sale on the Nintendo Switch right now. Definitely worth checking out to get you in the mood for this one.
