STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions - New adventures await!
Devolver Digital and System Era Softworks just dropped a massive gameplay reveal for STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions, and it looks like a blast! This isn't your typical Astroneer experience; instead, think of it as a fully-fledged expedition game designed for you to team up with friends and get a little bit crazy in space.
You and your buddies (up to three others) will kick things off on the ESS Starseeker, a space station overflowing with gadgets, supplies, and the not-always-reliable leadership of the Fronteer Force. Before you go on timed missions to weird alien worlds, you can plan your loadouts. It's up to you whether you buy, make, or trade for the best stuff, or if you just want to load up on beach balls and fireworks for some cosmic fun.
Once your dropship hits the ground, it's go-time. You're up against the clock, the planets don't want you there, and everything is likely to go wrong. When the mission is done, you get to tell stories back on the Starseeker! For all its "important missions" and "serious science," the station feels more like a party in space than a lab.
First Stop: Planet Tephra
Tephra is the first place Astroneers will go. It's a rich, mysterious planet way out in the frontier. I'm sure its thick jungles, huge oceans, and deep caves hold secrets and some dangerous places. All the planets in STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions are made by hand, so you can go back to your favorite spots, hidden stashes, or that one place where Carl got eaten by a plant. As your Squad moves forward, you'll open up new Landing Zones. This will open up new areas, harder tasks, and bigger team-based missions.
As the Starseeker goes deeper into the frontier, the team will find new worlds. Each one will have its own dangers, creatures, and stories that are connected to the Fronteer Force's Super Top-Secret Mission. It's a big mission that I'm sure is super interesting.
First Look at an Expedition
The Squad had to fix some very important equipment for the science team when they landed on Tephra in the STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions Direct demo. It was easy enough until the local animals covered everything in Goop, which forced the recruits to use their EXO Tools and special Nozzles to get around it. EXO Tools are modular upgrades that change how explorers work with the world.
To finish the Squad's job, they had to set up a comms relay high on Tephra's cliffs. While doing this, they had to clean Goop off of machinery with Water Hose Nozzles, fight off rowdy creatures, and leave the planet before time ran out. Of course, they went off course to chase Carrotlings, and cause all sorts of chaos. I think a little bit of creative disaster is what makes a Starseeker trip special.
STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions looks like it will take players deeper into the ASTRONEER universe. Whether you like to plan things out carefully, explore out of curiosity, or just throw beach balls in space, the Starseeker has a spot for you. Expect it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2026.
