Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists is a tactical RPG journey in mythical underworlds
Okay, so imagine this: you're in hell, right? But instead of just, you know, suffering for eternity, you're putting together a crew to pull off heists. That's the basic idea behind Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists, the new tactical RPG coming from the folks at A Sharp (the people behind Six Ages and King of Dragon Pass).
I gotta say, the concept grabbed me right away. It's not just the underworld setting, but also the fact that your characters are procedurally generated, each with their own fears, desires, and personalities. That means every playthrough is gonna be different, and you'll have to really think about how you build your team. No one wants a group full of folks that are constantly fighting each other!
What's really cool is that it's drawing inspiration from ancient myths – Proto-Indo-European, Norse, Mesopotamian – and even the art of Hieronymus Bosch. Seriously, the visuals are amazing. It's like they've taken these ancient stories and paintings and mashed them together into something totally unique.
The game revolves around these four heroes venturing into hell, and you're tasked with assembling a team with diverse skills and personalities that (hopefully) won't clash during the "trials of the underworlds." You're working for a "mysterious ambassador," which sounds totally trustworthy, right? However, you'll use the strengths of your party in over 200 unique dynamic narrative encounters, so skills will change depending on your team’s successes and failures.
The cool thing is that it's not all about combat. You can use your bard to calm down bandits, or hire a demonologist to talk to a possessed book. I love that there are so many different ways to approach each situation. It's not just about hacking and slashing your way through everything (although, let's be honest, sometimes that's fun too!).
I'm really digging the sound of Thousand Hells. The idea of a tactical RPG with procedurally generated characters, a unique setting, and a focus on choice and consequence is super appealing. No release date yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam, and I know I will!
