Wow, it's amazing to see how far the Horizon series has come! Starting with Zero Dawn back in 2017, it's now reported that the franchise has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide. I remember when Zero Dawn first came out; I was completely blown away by the world, the story, and of course, Aloy herself. It's fantastic to see the series doing so well.

These numbers come from a Korean news article, and if they're accurate, Horizon sold around 2 million copies in just a few months. Back in July, when Sony was dealing with a legal issue with Tencent, they mentioned that Horizon had already sold over 38 million units. That's an impressive jump!

The sales figures were revealed as part of a report on the upcoming Horizon MMO spin-off from NCSoft, called Steel Frontiers. It's designed for mobile devices. Apparently, this new title got a "standing ovation" during a conference call, which shows how hyped people are for it.

To put this in perspective, God of War (2018) had sold over 23 million units by 2022. And God of War Ragnarök sold 5.1 million copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation title ever! By November 2023, Ragnarök had sold over 15 million units. It's clear that Sony has some powerhouse franchises.

Also, Sony recently shared that Ghost of Tsushima had sold 3.3 million units about a month after its release. It's great to see these games resonating with so many players.

What's Next for Horizon?

Looking ahead, Horizon Steel Frontiers is set to be a "fierce survival adventure" where you'll play as machine hunters in a place called Deathlands. The developers are promising "large-scale raids" and an "advanced combat system." It's planned for mobile and PC, but it seems like the decision to skip PlayStation wasn't NCSoft's call.

It's interesting to hear about the behind-the-scenes stuff, isn't it? It makes you wonder what factors go into these decisions.

On another note, earlier this year, Ashly Burch, who voices Aloy, talked about AI and why she doesn't think robots will replace actors anytime soon. It's a relief to hear that, because Aloy's performance is a big part of what makes Horizon so special!
